What’s in your handbag? Nikola

A woman’s mind is as complex as the contents of her handbag; even when you get to the bottom of it, there is ALWAYS something at the bottom to surprise you! –

Billy Connelly

“Just unpacked my handbag!!! Look what all I found!!!!! All but a baby kitten!! Hahaha!!!” My cousin, Nikola’s, exact words when she sent me this photo.

Nikola's handbag contents

So, I replied: “20 million pens, 8000 lip ices, a selection of miscellaneous mini bags, random tins, vitamins… there MUST be a baby kitten in there somewhere! Have you checked in that little round tin?!” and then decided to post it on the blog, because it was just too darn universal not to share.

Right? I mean, don’t we all go around chucking random stuff into our trusty over the shoulder companions on a daily basis? Whether we’re OCD neat freaks, minimalists, hoarders, or all out sloppy janes, and whether our bag of choice is luxurious Louis Vuitton or sensible Miladys, we’ve all done it at some point.

So, I’m thinking of overturning unsuspecting friends’ bags every now and then, taking pics and posting them here to get behind the psychology of us girls and our handbags. (So best to clear out any dodgy items you may harbour in the secrecy of your tote, backpack, or bowling bag… or even better… DON’T!)

Of course no research would be complete without an in-depth interview with an expert in the field, so I sent Nikola a rather comprehensive Q&A of 4 questions.

1. What do you wish you could have in your handbag that isn’t there? (can be anything)

Lots of money?? A teeny tiny umbrella, and a little chair that i
can fold up to the size of a cellphone. 🙂

2. How do you pack your handbag? Neat, tidy and organised or throw things in as you go?

When i get a new handbag, i pack all my things neatly, in little
rows, but as time goes by, it all gets mixed up, and stays that way…

3. Do you change handbags often?

No, not actually. I have a few, but never change them. Too much  trouble. So I use a handbag untill my mom tells me to please get another one… that one aint classy anymore…

4. What is the best handbag you’ve ever had?

An awesome bright red one that I had in Stellenbosch. I could fit my class books in and all my other play things.

I know I commented on facebook, but, another way to conquer strange bad contents, especially as a teacher, is to have a tiny bag. Which is what I have done now- although my bag is filled to the brim.
